Hire a Space

Many of our Meeting Houses hire and lease spaces and facilities

Many of our Meeting Houses hire rooms out on a sessional basis to community and voluntary groups and others who respect our values. Using a Quaker Meeting House for your meeting or event demonstrates to all that you are tolerant of difference and treat all people equally. Quaker Meeting Houses are used across the UK by organisations that support people overcoming addiction, poverty and social inclusion.

Additionally, in Norwich we have a small property portfolio and can lease space on a long term basis.

Aylsham Meeting generally has around 20 or so people coming to Meeting for Worship each week. Many come regularly, but we also welcome visitors, and people who would like to find out more about what Quakers might offer them. Tucked away in Peggs Yard, the building is light and airy, and offers a peaceful place to gather together.

Great Yarmouth Meeting is a traditionally simple meeting house has been a place of Quaker worship since 1694, although Quakers were active in the town several decades earlier. Its long history stretches back to the C14 when Augustinian Friars occupied the site. The walled garden provides a peaceful oasis in the centre of town.

Address

(on the corner of Howard Street South and Austin Row (Row 60).

More Information

Great Yarmouth Friends are aware of the limitations of the meeting house for some groups. These are a consequence of it being a very old listed building managed by a small local meeting. For other groups the access to a quiet peaceful garden and self-management of access is just right.

Times of Meeting Worship

Sunday 10.30am to 11.30am.

Hiring a Room

The main meeting room is available for hire with the option of including the undercroft if concurrently hired (accessible by stairs only).

Access to the garden and the kitchen for light refreshments is included in all hirings.

Hire rates are per session (a session being a morning, lunchtime, afternoon or evening of up to 3 hours duration). Where the purpose of the organisation is convergent with Quaker testimonies a discount may be available at the meeting’s discretion.

For further information and current hiring rates please contact us at the email address below.

One-off or very short sequences of hirings are not accepted because hirers need to be inducted to open and re-secure the building as there is no caretaking available.
