World Quaker Day marks the end of Quaker Week
17 October 2026 at 12:00 – 14:00
Venue: RAF Lakenheath Main Gate
While Trump has removed his bombers from RAF Fairford in Worcestershire, Lakenheath in Suffolk still hosts US nuclear weapons, making Suffolk a potential target.
RAF Lakenheath is home to the 48th Fighter Wing which is home to F-15E and nuclear capable F-35A fighter/bombers which are nearly always involved in NATO exercise in the Baltic.
RAF Mildenhall, as well as supplying refuelling in the area is also used as the base for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering in the region.
When the Russians complain about "reckless" surveillance and exercises near its borders, they are often talking about aircraft that are launched from Suffolk.
There will be a protest this Saturday 17th October from 12-2 at the Main Gate, on the A 1065 between Brandon and the Mildenhall roundabout. Protesters will once again decorate the fences with banners, engage with passers by and keep informing the government that they do not consent to hosting weapons in the UK.
The 68 organisations that make up Lakenheath Alliance for Peace have held a monthly vigil at the gates, on the third Saturday of the month and will continue to maintain a presence every month (except December) until the next Peace Camp in 2027 from May 24th to June 5th...

Professor John Sanbonmatsu poses the question: Can our exploitation of other animals for food and other purposes be reconciled with truth-telling, nonviolence, justice, and peace? The talk will also address how the animal food economy is the primary driver of the ecological and mass-extinction crises, an issue with particular relevance to Quaker stewardship.
